Midwifery

NATURAL CHILDBIRTH

What Is a Midwife?

A midwife is a healthcare professional who offers care for women before, during, and after pregnancy. The midwife profession is committed to improving sexual and reproductive health care by providing patient education and emotional and practical support. Additionally, our midwives see patients for well-woman exams providing a holistic and comprehensive gynecologic experience.

Your midwife will be present during your hospital delivery. Our midwives partner with our physicians, who provide counsel as needed, especially in emergencies.

Our Midwife Services

Our midwifery services are here to ensure you enjoy the care and comfort you deserve during your pregnancy. Midwives can handle or assist with several outcomes, including:

  • Natural childbirth: Midwives prioritize a healthy and safe pregnancy, labor, and delivery. This practice includes helping you develop an empowering mindset before experiencing a natural birth.
  • Vaginal birth: Natural childbirth with a midwife relies on a healthy vaginal birth. Choosing a capable, certified midwife can decrease the risk of needing an unexpected cesarean delivery (C-section) for many low-risk patients.
  • Hypnobirthing: This approach involves using relaxation techniques and self-hypnosis to help a woman release her fears, feel calm, and increase her confidence. This practice teaches slow breathing, positive mindset affirmations, calming birth environments, and the beneficial effects of massage.
  • Labor management: Hypnobirthing is only one of the techniques used to assist women in controlling pain during labor and delivery. Midwives are often associated with decreased use of epidurals and labor induction for an overall increased satisfaction rate.
  • Breastfeeding education: Prenatal and postnatal breastfeeding education prepare parents for success with their newborns. Offering guidance and resources results in more successful breastfeeding attempts with increased duration.
  • Low-risk pregnancy: There are no significant differences in safety between midwife-led and doctor-led births for low-risk pregnancies with no preexisting complications. Midwife-led deliveries can have several advantages, including reduced hospital stays and decreased postpartum hemorrhage.
  • Low-intervention approach: Midwives provide a low-intervention birth. This process promotes natural, healthy, and individualized childbirth.
